Breaking: Jamie Vardy retires from England duty

Leicester City Striker and everyone’s favourite lad Jamie Vardy has announced he is retiring from International football in an exclusive interview with The Guardian.

He said he told Gareth Southgate he was considering it before coming home from the Russia World Cup. Citing playing time, focusing on his club career and wanting to spend more time with his family.

Vardy said that Southgate had created a club-like feel, but was going in a younger direction which he didn’t want to get in the way of. When asked about the World Cup, Vardy said he would like to have played more especially in the semi-final.

Our thoughts: We think Vardy was never really given a true chance for England. He burst onto the scene at the same time as Harry Kane and Kane was always going to be the choice. We think Vardy could do a job, especially as a partner for Kane. It would have been nice to see them get a run together. Though Leicester fans will be happy if this extends his career with them.
